Who is Tatiana Terekhova? TV-presenter, director or future politician?
Tatiana Terekhova is a person who lives in her own business and connects her future with Ukraine. And radio, television or social activity is already an expression the internal driving force, the work of the inner motor. I like it when our television and social projects are beneficial, at least sometimes with detriment to the sleep.
What inspired you for a career in television?
In childhood, I dreamed of becoming a singer or actress. But dreams have transformed over time. Already in teens, I began to realize that television is a super-tool of direct influence. But here it is important in whose hands this tool will be. You can manipulate people, as politicians and officials do. And you can shame the same officials all over the country to start working and helping people. I chose the second way. And I am happy as a child when our projects benefit people. With the options “singer” or “actress”, I must admit, it would be much more difficult to help.
Our biggest mistake is that we give up quickly. Often, to get what you want, you just have to try one more time.
Tell us about your studies in the USA.
The story on this topic can be very long. In short: difficult to do. But the training time has become one of the happiest in my life. The gained experience, knowledge, acquaintances are priceless. And two words were recorded in my memory: “Stay persistent!”. Our biggest mistake is that we give up quickly. Often, to get what you want, you just have to try one more time.
We see you as an independent women - you are the author of projects, a presenter, secular person. How to be a successful girl in Ukraine?
Here in fairy tales they write “Vasilisa is beautiful”, but they don’t say: she is blonde or brunette, tall or medium height. Because the reader has his own interpretation of beauty. The same with success. For each one it is his own. I am sincerely passionate about my work and it gives me strength and energy. You don’t even have to sleep or sleep very few - at 4 a.m. you need to wake up on the morning show of “Good morning, Ukraine!”. Little lifehack: don't affraid of condemnation and worry that something didn’t work right away. Don't pay attention to prejudice. You must always be a little bolder, continue to do and not stop. It is not in vain that they say that genius is a talent spurred by fury. Just every day you make efforts and work on a dream / goal / task. Even if today a little less, and tomorrow a little more, it will work sooner or later.
You are involved in many projects. Tell us about them.
Today, my main project is a unique morning program, “Good morning, Ukraine!”. We managed to build a project that not only entertains, but also tries to understand and solve the difficult situations in which people find themselves. For example, they didn’t connect a residential building in Brovary for communications for many years and people lived just in the cold and without water ... We shot a story and began to sort it out, then officials bustled around and connected the house. And we have such examples for every broadcast. And, of course, the social project All-Ukrainian student community STUDWAY is a platform for communication of active and interested people.
Remember your first live broadcast. How it was?
If we talk about the first radio broadcast, it was 11 years ago. I said it and was scared (laughs). It was given me a night slot on a weekend, that is, the most unrated time to try myself live. It was Sunday, from 11.00 p.m.. Wet palms and a slightly trembling voice. And the first television broadcast, however strange it may be, on New Year's Eve 8 hours of live broadcast. When they called me for this New Year’s project, the organizers simply asked me: “Do you work in live?” And I, without hesitation, said: well, of course (although before that I only had the experience of recording studios). And in the end, I did an excellent job. It is important to say that I was lucky with the co-presenter - it was the Ukrainian comedian Viktor Andrienko.
How did you become a commentator for Eurovision and the Olympic Games? Where is harder to work?
I have been working on television for over 10 years. I had experience in various projects. And in 2011, just 2 weeks before a business trip to Dusseldorf (Germany), they called me and offered to become the female voice of Eurovision in Ukraine. Since then I have been working with great joy and interest on this project. After a large-scale international project, there were no less large-scale Olympic Games. I commented on the ceremonies at the summer and winter Olympics, participated in television special projects dedicated to the main sport event; worked at the European Games, an analogue of the Olympics, but in Europe. Large-scale projects such as Eurovision and the Olympic Games unite cities and continents. Nothing makes people as united as sport and music. But these projects are different in work. And you need much more time to prepare for the opening of a sport event.
You have already run for the local elections in 2014. Planning a political career?
I saw how people study and live in Europe and the USA. I understand that you can change at native country for that young minds do not leave Ukraine forever. I see the tremendous potential of my native country and I see no obstacles to its development. Therefore, I will continue to implement social projects that are designed to help Ukrainians. But this is a particular topic for discussion.
What inspired to creation of films? Will you develop in this direction?
Probably the desire to speak out and show your vision and situation. Seven Eurovision documentaries have become completely different in terms of presentation and history. As a person who lived in this event, I managed to show the contest from different angles. But the documentary project about Ukraine, which I think you can see in the near future, is especially proud. The film is about what each of us, for sure, at least once asked himself: why are we, as a country and people, marking time? It seems to me that I found some of the answers. Another question: what now to do with them and in what direction to move on? This should be a big public debate.
What is scarce in Ukrainian television?
Thirst for truth, objectivity and independence.
What advise those who dream of a career on TV?
Do not be afraid to go forward. Before that, understand what benefits you will bring to millions of people. And do not forget ask periodically yourself this question.
Do you travel often? What do you feel when you return to Ukraine?
Compared to people who really love to travel, they know how to do it efficiently and always expect for this, I don't travel often. There are working trips, business trips, where we shoot some materials. But, honestly, I don’t feel the need for a constant change of picture. And if I'm leaving, then exactly on the 5th day I really want to go home. But you have to travel! Not only to broaden your horizons. You need to go on vacation in order to remind yourself that there is nothing more beautiful than your native and close Ukraine. Upon my return, I rejoice and lament like a grandmother: “Oh, how good it is at home!”
How do you combine a career with motherhood? Share the recipe.
I didn't consider other options for myself, except how to actively combine motherhood and work. At first, this it was not easy. Especially for such demand person as myself and the surrounding mothers, like me. After all, each person has questions in his head, and then reproaches, because this time you could spend with a child, instead of working. The solution was found in one books of child development and psychology. Every day you need to set a priority for yourself. For example, today you are a supermom and all day you are in children's worries and questions: kindergartens, classes, systematization of children's things, order in toys, cotton candy in the park, 30 fairy tales in a row and our long favorite conversations: “How was your day? And what about dad? ... " And tomorrow you are a good journalist, you work all day, you have time to read something important on the case, and you must definitely watch something trendy and come home in the evening and manage to devote a few time to the children, but most importantly, very high quality. This secret helps me in life. And also the fact that my husband and I learned to balance: each of us devotes most of the time to one child, the second to another. The next day - we change roles.
How to instill love with your country and culture for your children?
It is important for children to explain and inculcate elementary rules of respect and order from childhood. The point, after all, is in the little things. And also at every step of the parents who copy the children. Someone said well: “Do not raise children, they will still be like you. Educate yourself. " There is something in this phrase.
What traditions in your family?
Probably the same as in most families in our country. On Easter we go to the Vespers in the Church, on Christmas we try to get together as a family. From unusual traditions: my family always watched Eurovision and the Olympics on TV (guess why?).
What are you dreaming about?
My husband has just come on this question and says: “Just let’s not talk about world peace now, huh?” But it doesn't work out otherwise. All the same, the main thing is peace in our country. And not only in ours. The health of all children and the health of our loved ones. And you can work on everything else. Qualitatively and systematically. Successful results will overtake anyway.
What inspires you?
The people around me. Bold, decisive, not indifferent. Those people who are building our country a little bit. I look at them and want to do more and work even better. The main thing is to create, not destroy. Sometimes I can watch a cool interview (from the last: Tina Kandelaki about new information technologies) and recharge for new ideas, or I can just hear a cool song (Tanya Reshetnyak “Fantastic Zhinka”) and this is enough for a new useful idea to come.
How do you plan to celebrate Independence Day of Ukraine?
Definitely, we will be walking with children along the beautiful places of our city. Last year, Independence Day, my daughter and I walked for half a day at a special holiday location on a helipad near the Mariinsky Park, where all day there was a live broadcast of one of the Ukrainian television channels.
What do you wish Ukraine for your birthday?
We are the same age with you, Ukraine. And I, my dear, wish, as well for myself: to know exactly what you want and where you are going, to work hard for this and, in the end, be happy!
