The beauty of Ukrainian women is known all over the world. But is it enough to be just beautiful for the title “Queen of Beauty”? Miss Ukraine 2017, Polina Tkach immediately after returning from China, where she represented our country at the Miss World contest, tried the FOBERINI embroideries on herself and shared her impressions of the trip and recipes of success in an exclusive interview.
What is it like to be the first beauty of the country?
I do not feel myself the first beauty of Ukraine. I can meet beautiful girls, who have never participated in beauty contests, even on the street. At the Miss Ukraine contest is not only about the beauty but also human qualities. That’s why the title of Miss Ukraine for me is more than just a crown.
Some girls prepare for the Miss Ukraine contest during all their live. How was it in your case?
To be honest, participation in Miss Ukraine was not my dream, I did not even plan to go to the casting. The casting manager wrote me in one of the social networks, and even then I only promised to fill in the questionnaire of the participant of the casting. I was persuaded to try to participate. And I decided to try it.
There is no definite recipe for victory. We have even talked about this with the winners of the past years. We are absolutely different in character, type, appearance. For example, me and Sasha Kucherenko, who gave me the crown this year, are not at all alike. She is more reserved and conservative, I am more open and sociable. Perhaps this year I bribed with my sincerity, naivety, kindness and responsibility.
How do people react when they find out that you are Miss Ukraine?
I personally do not advertise my title when meeting people. But when find out that I’m Miss Ukraine, they react with great interest and admiration.
How has your life changed since winning?
Many people say, and I feel for myself that I have grown up very much. Now every day is very busy with different projects, shootings, interviews, programs. Half a year ago I could not imagine that in a moment everything could change so much. I have to sleep for several hours a day, but I like my schedule. The year is to be very interesting and useful to me as a person. It’s only begining!
How did you spend the prize fund?
I went to China almost immediately after the Miss Ukraine contest, so I did not have time to spend the money prize. I plan to spend this money on my personal education. I want to get a second higher education in the field of television.
How was the Miss World contest? Are you satisfied with your result?
I entered the Top 40 contestants. Of course, I would like to show the best result, I aspired to the Top 5. Throughout the preparation (we spent a month in China) I worked very hard to represent our country with dignity. I am very proud that I was singled out in a talent contest, vocal and dance number. In the folk dance of all the contestants, Europe was represented by only 5 girls, and I was one of them.
What difficulties encountered you at the Miss World contest?
It was quite difficult and morally and physically. At the Miss World contest, the girls even fainted at rehearsals, which sometimes lasted for 12 hours. My legs swelled, my body ached, I even hurt my knee at one of the rehearsals. But these difficulties only made me stronger and hardened me. I felt all responsibility, because on the other side of the Earth you represent your country and must make every effort to win.
What is the image of our country among Miss World`s participants?
The girls know about Ukraine, but they know not enough. That`s why, I wanted to tell as much as possible about our country, about culture and traditions. Many were surprised even with small things. For example, what stunning designers do we hawe Ukraine. As soon as I went out of my room in the new dress, they all were shocked, what beautiful things our masters are doing. They were also surprised that we speak both native Ukrainian, and Russian languages, that I speak fluent English. The girls said, “How wonderful this is! After all, you can communicate with so many people! “. Since the competition was held in China, the participants had an opportunity to see how talented the Ukrainian people are, because there are a lot of our artists – acrobats, dancers, gymnasts. When we got to these shows, I was overwhelmed with pride for our talented nation.
What was most memorable from the contest?
Of course, the Miss World contest was one of the most vivid impressions in my life. Most of all I remember the spiritual atmosphere that we had throughout the month in China. We became very friendly with the girls. During all the group’s travels on the bus, we had a tradition of singing and dancing. This is an inexpressible sense of cohesion of the team of participants from all corners of our planet!
Do you believe in female friendship?
I believe. And even if two girls stop communicating – this does not mean that the female friendship does not exist. Life can be divergent for all people, and this is normal.
Which of the Miss World contestants became your friends?
All participants were divided into 3 groups – blue, red and yellow. So basically I communicated with the participants from my group – the yellow team. Of course, most of all I talked with a contestant from Mongolia, because we lived in the same room. We all became friends and still communicate.
You have a younger sister. Will she participate in Miss Ukraine when she grows up? Would you like that?)
She really wants to take part, talks about it all the time. Perhaps, she will try to participate in the Mini Miss Ukraine, or one of such contests for the younger girls. In any case, if she firmly decides to participate in beauty contests, I will definitely support her, help with advices. My victory in the Miss Ukraine contest was a big event for her, I really appreciate it. We see each other very rarely because I’m constantly work on photsessions or events, so unfortunately, I do not always have time to tell her how much I love her.)
What will you advise those girls who will go to the casting of Miss Ukraine this year?
I constantly give advices in social networks, I make live broadcasts. So many girls write to me, ask questions, consult. The first and most important thing – be yourself. It’s always better than trying to be like someone else. Moreover, casting managers and jury of the contest every year see hundreds of girls and very well versed in people. We are talking about the character and personal qualities, and the parameters of the figure. People who work for the Miss Ukraine committee are very friendly. That`s why I advise to be open and sincere, come with a smile!

What is your strength?
Beauty (laughs). Parents brought up a sense of justice in me. And also kindness. I always want to help everyone. Therefore, in the role of Miss Ukraine, I want to attract as much people’s attention to charitable projects as possible.
For many girls the crown of Miss Ukraine is the limit of dreams. What are you dreaming about?
I did not dream of the crown before. Competition and victory for me is a step up to my goals and plans. Participation in such a large-scale project as Miss Ukraine really opens up a lot of new opportunities for you. And my secret dream is health and happiness of my family.
What are your further plans?
At the moment, the main goal is to adequately carry the title of Miss Ukraine, to fulfill many interesting projects and initiatives for this year, to take part in public and charitable actions, to involve as many people as possible to good deeds, to actively promote the theme of Mentoring in Ukraine.
